The Most Polluted Cities in the Philippines
- by D. Perez
Pollution is everywhere. It is one of the world’s biggest environmental battles that destroys wildlife and causes health problems to millions of people. It takes different forms of energy like heat, noise and light. Everything can be polluted like
air, water and even the population itself. China, Russia, India and Peru are among the countries that are considered to be the worst polluted countries in the world.
In the Philippines, pollution is considered in different cities but with different kinds.
Like Quezon City in Metro Manila, it is polluted because of the growth of population in the area. Business and commercial establishment can be found in this city which makes it attractive for people to live in this place to make a living. But the effect is that it is over populated which resulted to population in the area that can give health risk to the residents. It has numerous subdivision and has the highest concentration of urban poor residents which can be a cause of the over population of the city. Since if there are a many people residing in the area, competition in terms of career is also high which makes average people becomes poor compared to highly-competitive individuals.
Baguio City is considered to be the most polluted city in the Philippines due to air pollution.
It is considered a summer tourist spot in the country due to its cool weather. The result is air pollution due to the vehicle emission that private and public transportation produce which the tourist used to visit the place. Smog, the result of smoke and fog, is what makes the air polluted in the Baguio City since it produces fog because of the cool weather and the smoke coming from the transportation.
Marilao and Meycauyan Bulacan is considered polluted because of the river system in this area. There is a dumping site situated in this city for lead smelters, metal refiners and area tanneries. The chemical contaminant that the waste material produces causes pollution in the river. The commercial fishing industry in the city is greatly affected because of the pollution and it causes health problems to the residents.
Pollution can be a natural cause or man-made. As humans, we can be responsible with our acts and thus, we can prevent producing pollution in the environment. If everyone will cooperate to stop or eliminate pollution in our planet, we can have a chance to live in a clean and pollution-free environment.
